Joe Sheltry Obituary – It is with profound bitterness that we declare the passing of our dearest spouse, father and shipmate, LCDR Joseph Francis Sheltry USN (Ret.) of Gales Ferry, CT. Joseph died on August 7, 2020, seven days short of his 58th birthday celebration. Joseph was the given spouse of Lorraine Maxtutis Sheltry and the caring dad of Jaclyn Sheltry and her significant other Jon Marks of East Greenbush, NY; Erica Sheltry of Birmingham, UK; and Leah Sheltry of Gales Ferry, CT. His three little girls were his most valuable endowments. He was conceived in Boston, MA on August 15, 1962, the child of Claire Yirrell Sheltry of Massachusetts and the late Joseph F Sheltry.
He moved on from Dominic Savio Catholic High School in 1980 and quickly enrolled in the Navy at seventeen. In the fall of 1980, he met the adoration for his life where the two of them functioned as clinic corpsmen on floor 8E of the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Lorraine was his first chief – sending him back to the sleeping shelter to change into the guideline uniform of the day! They wedded in April 1983 with a fantasy wedding at the Polish National Home in Hartford, CT. They were hitched for 37 impressive years.
In 1985, he was chosen for the Enlisted Commissioning Program and proceeded to go to the University of Idaho getting his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry as the Honor graduate. During this time, their oldest girl, Jaclyn, was conceived in Moscow, Idaho. After determination to the Nuclear Propulsion Program, he earned his submarine dolphins in 1989 onboard the USS Lafayette SSBN 616. He got back for seven days before being conveyed again onboard the USS Kamehameha SSBN 642. He went to the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California where his subsequent girl, Erica, was conceived. He got his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1994 and a couple of years after the fact, got another graduate degree from NPS. After Department Head School, he filled in as the “Nav” on the USS Grayling SSN 646.
The family had their last move around this time, purchasing their first home in quite a while Ferry a day before he sent. Their third little girl, Leah, was conceived in 1998, while he was appended to COMSUBGRU 4 Norfolk. He made it home in an ideal opportunity for her introduction to the world. Following 21 years in the Navy, he resigned in August 2001.
